Insert 7/8 part of the stakes into the soil to ensure better releasing effect. More stakes in the soil, more water is absorbed by the soil. For large pots, you may need more than one stakes to water the plants. Make sure the maximum amount of the watering spike is touching soil. It not only let the water get to more of the root system, but also could support heavy bottle with water and will not result in the bottle broken issue. Dig a hole in the soil and the put the stake into soil! When you put the bottle into the stake, be reasonably gentle. If you slam the bottle in hard, or push it in, you can break the stake. Just gently rest the bottle in the stake. Especially for heavy bottle, you need to insert almost the whole stakes into the soil so that the stake will not topple and fall.
