Based on ADI patent iCoupler digital isolator adopts planar magnetic patent isolation technology. ICoupler technology is a patent isolation technique, it is based on the chip size transformer, rather than based on the combination of LED and photodiode used by photoelectric coupler. Due to cancelling the photoelectric conversion process of photoelectric coupler and adopt the iCoupler patent technology integrated transformer drive and receiving circuit, iCoupler technology realize the unmatched great performance compared with optoelectronic isolator. Due to the use of wafer manufacturing level technology, iCouple transformer is directly manufactured on a chip and iCoupler channel more effectively realizes the integration of the channel and is relatively easier to achieve other semiconductor functions than the photoelectric coupler.
Due to no photoelectric conversion step in photoelectric coupler which will effect efficiency, iCoupler digital isolator does not need to drive the LED external circuit. The power consumption is only one-tenth to fiftieth of the photoelectric coupler. iCoupler digital isolator keeps its great performance and reliability even if in the 125 high temperature environment. Therefore, it can be packaged in a low cost, small volume SOIC package. Besides, iCoupler digital isolator is with higher data transmission rate, better timing accuracy and transient common-mode rejection performance than photoelectric coupler. It has 2 times rated isolation voltage of and 10 times data transmission rate and timing accuracy of the photoelectric coupler. What's more, multichannel iCoupler digital isolator can provide forward and reverse channel of communication in the same chip to make the signal transmission direction more flexible and simplify hardware connection circuit between chips.
Features:
Higher speed: transmission rate can be up to 125Mbps
Lower power consumption: one-tenth power consumption of the photoisolator's at the same transmission rate; minimum working current: 0.8mAh
Smaller volume, more integrated, with 40% PCB area of the traditional photoisolator's
The two isolated ends of ADUM1201 have their respective power supply and GND. Voltage ranges from 2.7~5.5V. In this way, it can realize low voltage power supply and further reduce the power consumption of the system. It needs to connect power supply and GND to capacitance in order to filter the high frequency interference. The distance between the capacitance and power supply should be within 20mm to achieve better filtering effect. Due to two separate channels highly matching, crosstalk between channels is very small, and the two channels of input and output reverse design, very suitable for the characteristics of bidirectional RS232 bus transceiver, can greatly simplify the isolator and the isolation hardware connection at both ends. Notice that GND1 and GND2 must be two different GND otherwise it can not reach the effect of isolation. Notice that when ADUM1201 is working, power supply source of the both ends need to power on at the same time to guarantee the normal work of the two channels of ADUM1201.
