Clamp ammeter referred to as the clamp meter. Its working mainly consists of an electromagnetic current meter and through-core current transformers. Through-core current transformer core made of activity openings, and into a clamp-shaped, hence the name clamp-shaped ammeter. It is a portable instrument that can directly measure the alternating current of the circuit without disconnecting the circuit. It is very convenient for use in electrical maintenance and it is widely used.
Clamp meter is a meter integrating current transformer and ammeter. It is an important branch of digital multimeter, and its working principle is the same as current measurement by current transformer. Clamp meter is a combination of current transformer and ammeter. The core of the current transformer can be opened when the wrench is squeezed; the wire through which the current to be measured passes can pass through the gap opened by the core without being cut off, and the core is closed when the wrench is released. The conductor of the circuit under test across the core becomes the primary coil of the current transformer, where the current is induced in the secondary coil. So that the secondary coil connected to the ammeter there is an indication ----- measured line current.
Clamp meter was originally used to measure the AC current, but it also has some of the multimeter functions, can measure AC and DC voltage, current, capacitance, diodes, transistors, resistance, temperature, frequency and so on.
